LODGES AND CAMPS IN MASAI MARA
KEEKOROK LODGE
It is erected in the direct path of the
wildebeest migration. This was the first lodge to be built in
the Masai Mara.
At the height of immigration, Keekorok
lodge is surrounded by a swarming mass of animals and at this
time there is hardly any need to go for a game drive since all
the animals are within ones sight.
Accommodation at this lodge is in form of
bungalow, with single-story blocks and in comfortable shaded
chalets. There is liberal use of cedar wood, pink and gray sand
river stone and other indigenous building materials
A 300 meter raised walkway winds through
the forest and in front of the lodge to a thatched sundowner bar
overlooking the plains of the Masai Mara and a pool of resident
hippos.
The terrace overlooks moved lawns and
swimming pool for refreshment after the long game drives around
the park.
MARA SERENA LODGE
Mara Serena lodge is well known for its
site. It has a spectacular view of the surrounding landscape and
that what makes it great place to spend your holiday
Set on a high ridge, Mara Serena is also an
interpretation of a traditional African village of doomed huts
which are spaced apart to give a full view of the landscape.
Accommodation consists of 74 guest rooms’
20double rooms and the remainders are twin beds.
The main dining room, with its attractive
multi-doomed ceiling, it offers sumptuous meals which include;
international cuisine, local dishes, barbecues as well as
buffets.
The lodge also has an indoor swimming pool
with umbrellas; fresh towels as well as full services bar and
lounge to meet all your needs. The lounge and the bar serves;
fresh juices, cocktail, wines, spirits, and beer
Voltage is 240v in all rooms and in any
case you might need to use adapters they are always available at
the reception desk.
Boutique with curios, clothing, jewelry,
batiks, books, maps, lotions, film and shoe shining services is
also offered. Communication is available on telephone, fax and
radio.
MARA SAFARI CLUB
The Mara Safari Club is a four hour drive
form Nairobi and a forty five minute flight form Wilson Airport,
Nairobi.
Surrounded on the three sides by Mara
River, all tents have their own private frontage, with four
poster bed, verandah, and electricity, modern in-suite
facilities with hot and cold running water.
The main building has a lounge bar and
dinning room is cantilevered over the river. At the club, the
pool, al fresco buffet lunches and night activities of MasaI
dancing, slide shows and talks on the Masai culture all add up
to create a truly unique experience.
The camp has a total of 50 tents of which
42 are twin bedded and 8 double bedded of the 45 standard tents,
5 have sunken baths in the bathrooms and king size beds.
Each Mara Safari Club tent has
complimentary water and glasses, insecticide air-freshener,
electric lamps, dressing table and hand woven rugs, poster-bed
drapes, shower stalls, flush toilets in bathrooms, wash basins,
each has lonrho shampoo, hand lotion , shower and bath gel, and
freshly laundered towels, solar heated hot and cold running
water. The tent windows have mosquito gauze and flap. Each tent
has a flash light and umbrella just incase you might need to use
them.
MARA SIMBA LODGE
There are 84guest rooms, arranged in
cluster of 6 in each natural wood and stone banda. Sixty are
twin rooms, twelve double, four double + single and eighty
triple rooms.
In addition to that there are luxurious
tents, so by any chance you want to have extra comfort, this can
be a brilliant place for you to spend your holiday. Each
spacious room can easily accommodate an extra bed; it opens its
own private verandah with uninterrupted views across the river.
The lodge has a restaurant and bar which
offer first class cuisine. Guests can also book for other
activities such as early game morning balloon safaris, bird
watching safaris on foot and night game drives with bush dinner
and breakfast.
Evening entertainment is also available
from the traditional Masai dancers.
MARA EXPLORER
From the open air bath tub on a wooden deck
overlooking a gently meandering river, one can also pass time in
complete comfort in the company of greatness.
This exclusive five star camp offers ten
luxurious, well spaced tents that all have verandahs that
overlook the Talek River. Each tent reflects a distinctive
“explorer” style with old wooden chests, tin trunks and historic
prints, complimented by fascinating collection of Africana books
in the camps library.
All tents are furnished in classic blend of
ancient and modern with fine hand carved mahogany furniture,
rich African artifacts, and luxurious bathrooms with twin
bath-basins and all modern amenities.
Close to the entrance is the dining area
which has an ultimate canvas covering it to produce a great
atmosphere to enjoy your sumptuous meal. Meals can be enjoyed on
your verandah or at one of the series of specially selected
‘bush sites’ close to the camp.
Next is the camps bar that provides
beautiful river views and well stocked library, while the lounge
offers luxurious sofas for reading, playing bard games, or
swapping safari tales. Full laundry and valet services are also
offered to the guests while on safari.
SAROVA MARA LUXURY TENTED CAMP
There are 75 luxurious tents with permanent
roof and floor, attached bathroom, running hot water and
electricity. There is a restaurant and two bars which have a
viewing deck of the panorama bar that provides magnificent views
of the surroundings. The restaurant adheres to high standards of
dining serving international and local delicacies.
There is a swimming pool surrounded by sun
loungers for those who want an alterative activity of listening
to the sounds of African wildlife. Laundry services and bush
massage are also available
A variety of dining experiences are on
offer including bush, boma, garden, pool barbecue and salt lick.
Walking safaris can also be offered.
MARA SOPA LODGE
This Lodge has 200 beds, 77 by way of 77
rooms, 12 suites and one presidential suite, all of which are
rondavel style and have en-suite bathroom facilities, which
provide shaving sockets and hairdryers.
Every room and suite has a private,
elevated verandah with splendid views across the valley and on
which guests can relax, sunbathe and watch resident birds and
wildlife. Mini bars are also available in each room.
The lodge has direct dial telephone
facilities as well as satellite television and video options.
Water being used in the lodge comes from a nearby spring.
Filtered water is also available in a flask in each room, and
bottled water is available for sale.
FIG TREE CAMP
There are a total of 75 spacious rooms and
tents all in-suite with private balcony, views over the national
reserve. There are 38 tents with twin beds; 22 cabins with
double and single beds; and five twin bedded cabins
The latest addition to Fig Tree Camp is the
royal tents.
This comprises of 10 executive tent suites
developed on a private section of the Talek River. The luxury
tents are complete with four poster beds, butler services and
spectacular views of the Mara Reserve.
Facilities in the camp include; a main
dining room, an open air dining area, tree house, a coffee deck
, a swimming pool, a curio shop, a video room and guest lecture
facilities as a well as medical services with resident nurse.
Evening entertainment is also available by
local dancers. At an extra cost you can have balloon safari,
night game drives and also moonlight dinners.
GOVERNORS’ PRIVATE CAMP
Governors’ Private Safari camp has all the
assets one may need for a private safari, with highly
specialized experience and backup of Governors camp. The Private
Camp is situated in a unique area with a constant and unrivalled
flow of wildlife through out the year.
Governors Private Camp caters for up to 16
people. Personal attention is the hallmark of a stay here. Your
manager is also your host and is on hand to help and to answer
all your questions. The tents are luxurious with handmade
furniture. All Private bathrooms have flush toilet and hot
showers with crystal clear water.
All meals and drinks (except champagne)
are free, three game drives daily, game walks as well as laundry
are included in the price.
Governors’ Private Camp must be booked by
a minimum of four guests staying for at least three nights. This
is to ensure your privacy and comfort while in the camp.
MARA INTREPIDS CLUB
For the remainder of the year, the camp
offers some of the worlds’ finest viewing, the local populations
of the plains game and the big cats. Mara Intrepid is 298
kilometers due west of Nairobi or a forty-five hour flight form
Nairobi.
There are 30 luxury tents which are spread
across a large riverside site to ensure guests have privacy and
peace. Each tent is furnished with classic style of their
African safaris, with large poster beds and furniture offset by
modern en suite bathrooms with hut showers, flush toilets and
modern amenities.
Each tent sits on a shady raised platform,
with sweeping views over the river banks where a wide variety of
animals come to quench their thirst. Mara intrepid is divided
into four distinct areas, each with its own open air dining area
and mess tent, where private meals and functions can be
arranged.
Activities in this camp include; three
guided game drives each day, escorted walking safaris outside
the reserve, bush breakfast and dinners under the stars and
visits to the neighboring Masai communities.
OLONANA LUXURY CAMP
Olonana has 12 spacious permanent bush
pavilions, each tasteful appointed with two queen size beds,
in-suite bathrooms with hot and cold showers and spacious river
view terraces. Olonana Camp also has a swimming pool to relax at
after a day’s game drive.
Meals are served in a dining overlooking
the river, with a wide selection of fine wines and spirits. Or
preferably you can opt to have a romantic picnic deep in the
wilderness or even sink into the comfortable sitting area with
some books from the camps library lounge and enjoy a delicious
dinner in the dining room over looking Olonana’s private section
of Mara River.
A wide range of activities in the camp
include day or night game drives, bush walks, visit to the
adjacent Masai cultural villages and sundowners.
BATELEUR TENTED CAMP
This camp consists of nine spacious tents
with wooden floors and private verandahs grace this exclusive
luxury camp. Inside each camp is an in suite bathroom and a
flush toilet. There is a subtle lighting and ceiling fans in
each tent. The ultimate indulgence a personal butler service
ensures you are pampered in style.
Fine antiques enhance the secluded,
comfortable interiors of the camp, leather-buttoned Chester
field sofas, keepsakes of distant day such as polished compasses
and cabin trunks with original passages labels, as well as a
wide range of library books. The interior transport you to the
heyday of colonial safaris, to an epoch of romance, canvas and
candlelight
The main guest area, which is shaded by
dense forest canopy, has a reception area and comfortable lounge
with a fireplace. The tree-shaded lap pool is also a feature in
this camp for refreshment.
The dining area and the verandah have
views of the endless game-filed plains of the Mara. Dinners are
served in a clearing in the bush under a star-studded sky. The
incredible effort, the surprise, the spectacular settings,
visual impact and fairytale-like atmosphere of dining under the
stars are an unforgettable African bush experience.
IIKELIANI LUXURY CAMP
IIkeliani is an exclusive luxury tented
camp for visitors who want a true bush experience. The camp has
12 en-suite and well spaced tents. The tents are privately
situated on the banks of the Talek River. Each tent is secluded
under the luxury of indigenous trees with its own private
viewing deck.
Five tents have double beds while seven
have twin beds; each tent has a veranda and day beds overlooking
the Talek River with great views of the extending Maasai Mara.
Dine in romantic candle light with fine
wines and gourmet meals by the riverfront. Some of the
activities in this luxurious camp are: Riverfront dining,
private bar lounge, Game drives, Nature and cultural walks,
Sundowners by a camp fire, Manyatta (Maasai village) visits.
KAREN BLIXEN CAMP
The camp is situated in southern Kenya on
the northwestern border of the famed Masai Mara Reserve in
Koiyaki 20 minutes drive north of Musiara Gata on 66 acres
concession of private land leased from a Masai landlord. Karen
Blixen camp is accessible by flight from Nairobi, Mombassa,
Samburu, Lewa Downs and Nanyuki or by private charter flights.
The camp is also accessible by road. The drive from Nairobi
takes approximately 5 hours during the dry season, and 7 hours
in the green season.
The camp comprises 22 spacious tents set on
large mahogany platforms each with a veranda from which one can
enjoy an afternoon siesta taking in the wonderful surroundings.
The tents are furnished with comfortable furniture for the
ultimate camping luxury. 19 tents are placed along the
riverbank, whilst 3 units are situated on raised platforms
offering incredible views of the area. Each of the tents has
private toilet and shower. Camp facilities also include a
restaurant, a bar and a swimming pool, as well as wellness
treatments are offered by the resident masseuse.
KICHWA TEMBO
The camp is set among the forests just
below the spot where a famous scene from Out of Africa was
filmed. Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp has 40 canvas safari tents,
each with a private outdoor deck. There is an en suite bathroom
with shower, stone floors and soft lighting. Each tent stands at
least eight meters away from the next, ensuring absolute
seclusion.
The main lodge has a curio shop and a
reception. The courtyard is candlelit in the evening and you may
relax in the bar/lounge area. Our palm-fringed swimming pool
overlooks the plains of the Mara. At night, Askaris (Maasai
warrior security guards) accompany you to and from your tent.
The airy main restaurant is covered with
Maasai thatch grass and overlooks the Mara plains. Dinner may be
served alfresco style outdoors, weather-permitting. Private
meals are also arranged on request.
SIANA SPRINGS CAMP
Some of the accommodation facilities are;
38 spacious tents spread amid woodlands and ponds, Large single
or double beds and classic furnishings, Modern en suite
